Abidah El Khalieqy began to write at a young age and has enjoyed a very productive career. Her highly popular novel, Perempuan Berkalung Sorban (2001), was adapted for the silver screen and won several awards.

Joan Suyenaga was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and earned an MA in Anthropology from the University of Hawaii. She began studying traditional Javanese music (gamelan) and language in the early 1970s, and has lived, raised a family, and worked in Yogyakarta as a freelance writer, translator, and editor, focusing on Indonesian and Javanese culture, for over 30 years.

Heike Reissig studied Applied Languages in Cologne, Aix-en-Provence, and London, and obtained a diploma in Translation Studies from the University of Applied Sciences of Cologne in 1993. She worked as a marketing manager in the music industry for 6 years and became a freelance translator in 2000. Until 2013, she mainly translated work of non-fiction in the fields of business and arts, but then shifted her focus to fiction. In 2014 she won the renowned Berliner Übersetzerwerkstatt scholarship, a program for literary translators held at Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB). She is a member of the Association of German-speaking Translators of Literary and Scientific Works (VdÜ).
