Sakeco

Sakeco, an oral tradition from Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggar, is an art of responsive poem recital formed by a small ensemble of two to four people who sing and play their own instruments. Each of them plays their own beat pattern on a tambourine (rebana). The various rhythms of the tambourines merge with each other. Sakeco is performed at special events such as circumcisions and weddings, as well as in welcoming ceremonies for people who are considered respectable in the community. Sakeco performances can go on all night. This secular art form is still very popular in communities around Sumbawa Besar.
