Dul Muluk is a traditional theater of the Jambi region and Batanghari regency. It is a dying art. A typical Dul Muluk performance involves the placing of a table in the middle of the stage area. One of the characters, such as the king or minister starts a dialogue or sings a song, and then they bang on the table with a cane and dance to the beat of the music. In certain parts of the performance, the audience participates in the dance.
Dul Muluk is performed from evening to morning. This art uses a musical ensemble consisting of violin, drums, gong and other instruments, depending on the course of the story. The stories conveyed in Dul Muluk are derived from folk lore (Sahibul Hikayat) adapted to present day social issues in the community.
