Bati-bati is a spoken tradition from the people of Selayar, South Sulawesi. This art of singing and interactive improvisational rhyme can be carried out by both men and women. It is combined with gambus music played by an all male ensemble who also sing. It can be performed at different kinds of ceremonies: circumcisions, weddings, religious celebrations, etc. The singers can create rhymes all night long.
