Short Description:

Tan Bentan is related to the Minangkabau (West Sumatra) legend of Cindua Mato, a man who became a key official in the traditional administrative system of the Minangkabau people that was centered in Pagar Ruyung. Cindua Mato was sent on a quest to find and bring home a Putri Bungsu, or bride, for the person being groomed to lead the Minangkabau people.

This legend is told through singing and dancing accompanied by the beat of a percussion instrument (adok) made of tiger skin. The lyrics of the poems carry vague meanings, but use idioms and metaphors that bring the atmosphere to life.
