In early 20I0 Lontar embarked on a historical memory documentation project titled “Old Hands”. This involves documenting the life-stories of non-Indonesian people or non-Indonesian born citizens who have made a positive contribution to Indonesia’s development as a dynamic multi-racial and multi-ethnic state. This is an on-going project, one during which we hope to document the life stories of people who have come to these shores from as wide a range of nations as possible. While this research project may eventually develop into a book, the primary goal is documentation — the recording of stories that migh otherwise be lost.
This project is very much intended to be a participatory exercise in the documentation of historical memory. People whose stories are to be recorded must be aware that Lontar intends to make them accessible to the public through the Foundation’s digital library (currently in development).
Potential candidates must meet at least two of the following requirements:
Thus far, more than 200 people have shown interest in telling their stories. If you meet the requirements and have not yet signaled your willingness to participate, please fill in the form
Please don’t be concerned if you are not immediately contacted for an interview date. This is viewed very much as a long-term project.
