No less than 20 Indonesian media organizations covered the two-day Hadhrami (Indonesian of Arab descent) Festival organized by Lontar and the Cultural Faculty of the University of Indonesia in early May. A range of print media, from Kompas – the country’s largest daily newspaper to religious and women’s affairs magazines in addition to assorted online news portals reported on two major themes featured in the book Fatimah, launched at the festival. The articles mostly focused on the Arab-Indonesian community, their role in the history and development of the nation, and the status of Hadhrami women in Indonesian society. IDN Times, an online newspaper geared towards millennials produced eight stories and two video news clips on the festival’s programs.
